The Education & Discovery Sales Associate is a dynamic professional who is positive, productive, self-starting and highly motivated. He/she reports directly to the Vice President - Education & Discovery, and works closely with the entire Education & Discovery team, as well as the Operations team. His/her primary function is to promote and sell the Space Foundation's Education & Discovery programs, and to carry out bookings. This includes conducting post-sale follow up tasks, communicating with other Team Members about booked groups and events, and other administrative requirements such as preparing contracts, reports and status updates. The Education & Discovery Sales Associate is responsible for start-to-finish customer interactions throughout the booking process, follow-up customer care and solicitation of customer feedback. The Education & Discovery Sales Associate is also responsible for coordinating the flow of information to other Team Members and departments and for ensuring that pertinent sections of the Space Foundation’s web site are kept current.
The Education & Discovery Sales Associate works proactively and takes initiative to sell Space Foundation Education & Discovery programs, products and services and to support the varying needs of the team. He/she plans and initiates sales calls to prospective teachers, students and other customers, follows up on all leads and prospects, and takes direct responsibility for closing each sale. He/she helps prepare and send sales literature, correspondence, and any documents aimed at securing new Education & Discovery business or enhancing experiences for existing customers. He/she must be prepared to answer telephone or email inquiries regarding all Education & Discovery programs, products and services offered by the Space Foundation, including field trips, group bookings and facilities rentals within the Space Foundation Discovery Center. He/she may be required to describe in depth how various programs work and will be responsible for making sure that the customers are satisfied with their experience. In time, the Education & Discovery Sales Associate should be able to analyze and assess a client's needs and recognize opportunities to up-sell, increase their expenditures, or expand their financial support in new ways.
As an integral part of day-to-day business, the Education & Discovery Sales Associate will also be required to handle administrative tasks, such as writing and executing contracts and proposals, handling telephone calls and emails, conducting research, reviewing and updating pertinent sections of the website, typing various correspondence, reports and proposals, and keeping track of Education & Sales records and progress reports. As needed, he/she will enter and update information about Education & Discovery customers or prospects into our database.
As a member of the Education & Discovery team, he/she will be expected to contribute to the overall success of the team in all areas of responsibility. He/she is expected to participate with the strategic planning and implementation of Education & Discovery initiatives focused on increasing company revenues. As directed by the Vice President - Education & Discovery, he/she will also take the initiative and work independently on sales-related special projects as assigned.
The Education & Discovery Sales Associate must be passionate about customer service, professional, courteous, resilient and patient, as well as maintain a positive approach to the job. Due to the volume of interaction with external customers, this position requires poise, tact, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality when needed.
The Education & Discovery Sales Associate must be driven, highly organized and able to develop a strong understanding of the Foundation's mission and Education & Discovery sales objectives. He/she should be able to work independently and as a member of a team. Maintaining close communications with Team Members in a variety of departments will be a key to this individual’s success.
Computer literacy and basic web site maintenance and administration are essential to this position, as well as knowledge of search engine optimization and HTML. The ability to learn new applications quickly is required.
Strong communication skills are essential. This person must be an expert listener and experienced note-taker, able to follow instructions, record important information, and interpret and describe a customer’s needs to the appropriate Team Member(s). Accuracy and attention to detail are required in all aspects of the position.
This individual must possess the ability to support the Education & Discovery team in a fast-paced environment. He/she must be able to calmly and effectively handle multiple competing tasks and demands resulting from frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.
Must demonstrate experience working independently on special projects and assignments, and must have the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, management, communication or related field;
5-8 years’ work experience in sales, marketing and/or business development; and
Previous work experience as a sales associate.
Familiarity with the education community will be very beneficial.
A demonstrated proficiency in using computers and related software applications, Internet research tools, reporting applications and various databases is required. Superior knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and experience updating basic web site information and entering data, are required.
