Ackerman Conference Center and Area 51
The Space Foundation has two meeting facilities in our world headquarters that are available to qualified businesses and non-profit organizations on a limited basis for meetings and events.
Ackerman Conference Center Offers Meeting Rooms, VTC
The Ackerman Conference Center comprises four meeting facilities:
The General James E. Hill Conference Room, conveniently located directly off the Space Foundation world headquarters lobby, is an executive board-caliber meeting room that accommodates 30 people and includes video teleconferencing (VTC) and large-screen presentation capabilities. It has a small service area and a small refrigerator and is appropriate for executive/board meetings and working lunches.
The General Thomas S. Moorman Jr. Conference Room, located adjacent to the Space Foundation marketing department (an active work area), is a basic conference room that accommodates eight people and has teleconference capability. It is appropriate for small planning meetings.
The Howell M. Estes III Conference Room, also located adjacent to the Space Foundation marketing department (an active work area), is a small collaboration room that allows for multiple laptop hook-ups to a large, shared screen. It accommodates a maximum of six people.
The W.B. Tutt Room, located on the second floor near Space Foundation team offices and work areas, accommodates 10 people and has teleconference and presentation capabilities. It is also appropriate for planning meetings.
The Ackerman Conference Center is named in honor of Jasper D. Ackerman, who was a business leader in Colorado Springs from the 1940s until his death in 1988, in appreciation for funding provided to the Space Foundation by the Anna Keesling Ackerman Fund to support the purchase of Space Foundation world headquarters.
The General Thomas S. Moorman Jr. Conference Room and Howell M. Estes III Conference Rooms are named after military leaders who have been instrumental in developing and using space assets.
The W.B. Tutt Room is named after local business leader and philanthropist William B. Tutt, who helped found the Space Foundation and has been a major supporter throughout our history.

Area 51 Offers Casual Environment
Area 51, which serves as the Space Foundation team lounge and meeting facility, is also available on a limited basis to approved organizations for casual meetings and celebrations.
Area 51 features a large screen display with projector and sound system, casual chairs, couches, bistro tables and a counter with seats. It also offers a kitchen with two microwave ovens, a convection oven, two refrigerators and two dishwashers. It can accommodate 50 people and is appropriate for casual activities and movie screenings.
How to Find Out More, Request a Reservation
The Ackerman Conference Center and Area 51 are used primarily for Space Foundation meetings, but are available, on a limited basis, to Space Foundation Corporate members, select nonprofit organizations and government entities for high-level, strategic meetings. They are not intended for routine meetings, public activities, weddings, private functions or professional photography sessions, nor can they be used for fundraising events unless sponsored by the Space Foundation.
Availability is generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. After normal business hours, the event must be "sponsored" by a Space Foundation team member, who must be present during the event. Rooms may be reserved, if not needed for Space Foundation activities, on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no fee to qualified organizations.
Requests must be submitted at least two weeks before the meeting date and a minimum of two business days advance notice is required for changes to the original meeting request details, such as room setup, amenities or additional space. To determine if your organization is eligible and if the room you are requesting is available, contact Ackerman Conference Center Coordinator Jennifer Picard at firstname.lastname@example.org or +1.719.576.8000.
Catering and Food Services
All catering and food service must be provided by the group sponsoring the meeting and must be coordinated in advance with the Ackerman Conference Center coordinator. Alcohol may not be served during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Approval is required to serve alcohol after hours, and alcohol may not be served to anyone under the age of 21 or to anyone who appears to be intoxicated. The Ackerman Conference Center coordinator can make catering and food services recommendations.
Terms and Conditions
The Space Foundation requires groups that use the Ackerman Conference Center or Area 51 to agree to terms and conditions designed to protect the Space Foundation and our guests from damage, disruption or liability; full terms and conditions will be provided before a reservation is confirmed. Groups reserving the facilities may not charge a fee for meeting participation, except to cover catering expenses and/or program costs and materials.
