Mars Yard
Experience driving a rover on the Red Planet! The Space Foundation’s Mars Yard and Robotics Lab with the Honeywell Mars Robotic Experience provides a unique experience in one of the largest labs of its kind in the world. The simulated Martian terrain offers a chance for participants to program a rover to complete mission objectives individually or in teams.
The Mars Yard is open to school groups, Boy and Girl Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, church groups, educators and corporate groups for team building opportunities.
The Mars Yard's Honeywell Mars Robotic Experience uses LEGO® NXT equipment and MINDSTORMS® software to:
- Engage in cross-curricular, customized missions that simulate lifelike Mars rover missions
- Apply 21st Century skills across the curriculum
- Develop communication and collaboration skills
- Find creative solutions for operating rovers on a difficult terrain
- Provide challenges that increase engagement while focusing on improving real-life skills
Custom-Designed Classes
All missions are custom-designed to support classroom curriculum. The Space Foundation education team works with teachers before and after the Mars Yard session to ensure that each mission supports learning objectives in the classroom.
Missions can be run that support technology, math, language arts, team building or we can custom-design a mission for you and your students.
