Satellite Space School - Space Discovery Institute begins in Charles County
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jul. 23, 2008) -- Space Discovery Institute classes began this week in Charles County, Md. Working with the Charles County Board of Education, the Space Foundation is teaching courses on "Astronomy Principles for the Classroom," "Rocketry and the Biology of Living in Space," "Biological and Physical Research," and "Earth Systems Science" from July 21 - August 1. These interactive, hands-on courses utilize proven teaching strategies designed to provide educators with experience, knowledge, and content that is instantly transferable into the classroom. Team members from the Space Foundation's Washington, D.C., office joined the Charles County Space Discovery Institute for the first day of the program. Presenting in "Rocketry and the Biology of Living in Space," the Washington team spoke about the global space industry, the economic impact of space activities, space activities in the U.S. and internationally, as well as how space-related policy and law is developed and executed. These presentations gave participating teachers a broad contextual foundation for modern space activities and the content they will be learning throughout the week.
