Space Foundation Promotes STEM at Boo at the Zoo
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 31, 2011) -- The Space Foundation seeks out opportunities to find new ways to interest young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). When Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colo., offered Boo at the Zoo during the last week of October, the Space Foundation was there, offering a fun astronomy activity showing children how to create constellations to take home.
Thousands of people attend the annual Halloween event, and in addition to passing out candy, the Space Foundation used the opportunity to interest young people in the night sky by helping children make glow-in-the-dark constellations using a special pigment mixed with glue and applied to black paper. See photos of the activity here.
