Aerojet Awarded SM-3 Solid Divert and Attitude Control System Contract

Written by: developer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2013) – Aerojet, a GenCorp (NYSE: GY) company, announced today that the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has awarded the company a multi-million dollar contract to develop advanced Solid Divert and Attitude Control System (SDACS) technologies for the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIB interceptor.

This development contract will advance SDACS technology to increase flight duration, mission flexibility and overall performance required for the SM-3 IIB missile, ultimately reducing technical risk for the future SM-3 IIB Missile Product Development Phase.

“This SDACS Risk Reduction Technology Program is a key element of MDA’s strategy for early demonstration of shipboard-compatible technologies for the SM-3 IIB missile that can be based on land or at sea,” said Vice President of Advanced Programs, Marshall Cousineau. “Aerojet will build upon the successes of our flight-demonstrated SM-3 Block IB TDACS and development underway on our SM-3 Block IIA TDACS to provide MDA with an efficient program that will extend the state-of-the-art technology for the Block IIB mission.”

The SM-3 Block IIB missile is a key component of Phase IV of the president’s Phased Adaptive Approach, which focuses on protecting the U.S. homeland from first generation ICBMs as well as U.S. assets and allies in Europe from regional threats.
