Lexon Humanitarian Demining Device Recognized as Certified Space Technology

08/05/2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 6, 2003) -- The Space Foundation today announced that Lexon Technologies has joined the growing list of companies able to market a qualified product as an officially Certified Space Technology. "Lexon's new Humanitarian Demining Device is precisely this kind of commercialized technology transfer that our Space Certification program is intended to promote," said Space Foundation Director of Marketing & Development Kevin C. Cook. The Space Certification program officially recognizes products that have their origins in space program technology. The device is being produced and marketed by Lexon Technologies as the Lexon Demining Flare (LDF, a flare-like device that uses rocket fuel to produce a high-temperature flame that effectively burns out the explosive fill in landmines before detonation. More than 100 million landmines threaten lives worldwide and the Lexon Demining Flare is now available to military, law enforcement, and humanitarian organizations in need of safe, cost-effective demining solutions. In addition, Lexon Technologies' Senior Vice President and co-founder Michael G. Crilly was inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 2003 in recognition of his individual contributions in developing the Humanitarian Demining Device. "Lexon's new device confirms once again that space based technologies can be a powerful force for improving health and safety for everyone on Earth. The potential of this device to save lives is another of the immeasurably valuable benefits of space programs." said Cook. The Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA, established the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 1988 to recognize innovators who transform technology originally developed for space use into commercial products, to increase public awareness of the benefits of space transfer technology, and to encourage further innovation. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, The Space Foundation, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to vigorously advance and support civil, commercial and national security space endeavors and educational excellence.
