Microbial Check Valve(R) officially recognized as Certified Space Technology
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jul. 7, 2005) -- The Space Foundation announced today that the Microbial Check Valve(R)(MCV) technology from Water Security Corporation is officially recognized as a Certified Space Technology. This water purification technology was developed for NASA and has been used on all U.S. manned Space Shuttle missions. Water Security Corporation developed the MCV technology to recycle and purify the limited water supply available aboard the shuttle. This purification system effectively kills more than 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses found in contaminated water. Water Security Corporation's water filtration systems now support a range of applications and can filter and disinfect water from the most challenging sources. "Water Security Corporation's MCV technology was awarded the Certified Space Technology seal because it effectively applies space-based knowledge to a needed application on Earth," said Kevin C. Cook, director of brand management for the Space Foundation. "Their water filtration systems are providing safe, affordable drinking water throughout the world." The Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA, manages the Space Certification Program to recognize innovators who transform technology originally developed for space use into commercial products, to increase public awareness of the benefits of space transfer technology, and to encourage further innovation. For more than 40 years at NASA, the world's best engineers bred a host of advanced technologies that fueled America's efforts in space and resulted in a number of earthly applications as well. Now, qualified products and services incorporating those technologies can be officially tied to U.S. space efforts through the Space Certification Program.
