A Message to Start the Year: Relationships are Secret to Success

This month's Second View "thank you note" is by Space Foundation Senior Vice President - Strategic Partnerships Elizabeth Wagner and Space Foundation Director - Space Awareness Programs Kevin Cook.

Once again we are fortunate to witness the promise of a new year. And once again a lot is said, and unsaid, about resolutions to improve our personal and professional selves. "Relationships" often find an important place within our annual "to do" lists. In fact, relationships, cooperation and synergy are terms so frequent and familiar that they have become trite. And yet the Space Foundation exists in large part for the very purpose of bringing ideas, capabilities and people together.

Our forums and space symposia, new headquarters building and Visitors Center activities, space awareness, policy and educational programs all succeed because they provide a gathering place where we can freely exchange experiences and knowledge to produce something greater than the sum of its parts. By sharing what we know and what we can do we improve ourselves, our industry and the world around us.

We are privileged and humbled to have the support of hundreds of corporate and government partners, Space Certification program partners, Space Technology Hall of Fame inductees and thousands of educators and students. Our friends and associates include some of the brightest and best minds to be found anywhere; managers, engineers, physicists, scientists, mathematicians and dreamers. Many of you have been with us since the earliest days of the Space Foundation and others are the newest additions to a long history of achievement.

It is not possible to express it earnestly enough or often enough. Suffice it to say that you are our reason for being and our "not so secret" to success. All of us at the Space Foundation are proud and sincerely grateful for your continued partnership, trust and support. As always, we are here for you and look forward to working with you on our shared mission. Please do not hesitate to call upon us or to offer your insights.

Thank you and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2013!
