Space Foundation CEO Discusses Local Space Impact

Pulham Addresses Economic Forum Space Foundation CEO Elliot Pulham spoke about the impact of the space industry on the local economy at the 14th Annual Southern Colorado Economic Forum in Colorado Springs in October.

Participating in a panel that also comprised Norman Bellingham, chief operating officer of the United States Olympic Committee, and Tom Duening, the El Pomar chair of business & entrepreneurship for the College of Business at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), Pulham discussed the breadth and depth of the space economy in Colorado Springs. He detailed space employment and revenue and discussed the significant impact of the Space Foundation's annual National Space Symposium. The panel, Innovation and the Future of the Pikes Peak Region, was moderatored by Steve Helbing, regional president of Wells Fargo Bank.

As a global advocate for space, the Space Foundation does not advocate for any specific space region over any other. But, as Pulham explained to the audience, "We believe that it's important for any city, state or region with an active space economy to understand the postive impact of the business.

"Space jobs are good jobs, with high salaries and high educational requirements," he continued. "The Space Foundation wants to make sure communities welcome, nuture and support space companies and organizations."

The 14th Annual Southern Colorado Economic Forum , presented by UCCS, was sponsored by multiple local businesses. It also featured Ron Chernak, president, First Business Brokers, LTD; Venkat Reddy, Ph.D., dean of the UCCS College of Business; Jim Harris, senior vice president and Southern Colorado business banking manager for Wells Fargo Bank; Gary Schlossberg, vice president & senior economist for Wells Capital Management; Fred Crowley, Ph.D., assistant director and senior economist for UCCS; and Tom Zwirlein, Ph.D., professor of finance and director of the Southern Colorado Economic Forum, UCCS.
