Space Foundation CEO Participates in Media Session on Sequestration

Participates Warn on Negative Impact of Pending Budget Cuts

Space Foundation Chief Executive Officer Elliot Pulham participated in a Colorado Space Coalition media Q&A in July in Denver. The session followed remarks by Aerospace Industries Association Vice President of Space Systems Frank Slazer, who urged aerospace leaders to rally support against sequestration cuts to the federal defense budget.

Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed an act last August that established across-the-board cuts for a 10-year period. It established a bipartisan committee that failed to reach consensus on a $1.5 trillion deficit-reduction plan. The Colorado Space Coalition, which became involved because Colorado has the second-largest aerospace economy in the nation and is home to numerous Army and Air Force bases, has prepared a "Call for Action" letter to Colorado's Congressional Delegation expressing its deep concern. Colorado's aerospace leaders shared the potential impacts of sequestration to Colorado's expansive aerospace economy, including the military, civil and commercial sectors.
