Space Foundation Hosts Air Force Space "Lunch & Learn"

In June, the Space Foundation Washington, D.C. office, in coordination with USAF Legislative Affairs and the Air Force Association, hosted a “lunch and learn” session focused on USAF space programs for congressional staffers on Capitol Hill.
Nearly 60 staffers participated and speakers included:
- Gil Klinger, deputy assistant secretary of defense for space and intelligence, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics
- Douglas Loverro, deputy assistant secretary of defense for space policy
- Brig. Gen. Robert McMurry, director, space programs, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Acquisition
Each panelist provided 10 minutes of remarks followed by Q&A. Most of the questions dealt with Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) procurement and “new entrant” criteria being developed for new companies to compete for national security launches. Other questions concerned Department of Defense utilization of commercial communications satellites.
