The Space Foundation seeks out opportunities to find new ways to interest young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). When the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colo., offered Boo at the Zoo during the last week of October, the Space Foundation was there, offering a fun astronomy project helping children create constellations to take home.
Thousands of people attend the annual Halloween event, and in addition to passing out candy, the Space Foundation used the opportunity to interest young people in the night sky by showing children how to make glow-in-the-dark constellations using a special pigment mixed with glue and applied to black paper. This hands-on STEM activity was adaptable for children of all ages. See more photos here.
