Space Foundation VP Speaks at Career Day

300 Maryland 6th-8th Graders Learn About Space Careers

Space Foundation VP Speaks at Career Day Space Foundation Vice President for Government Affairs Brendan Curry was a featured speaker at the Piccowaxen Middle School Career Day in Charles County, Md., in October. He described his job to about 300 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, and shared basic information about a wide variety of career fields in the space industry. He discussed qualifications, skills, and background requirements for various jobs, as well as, proper dress, travel, and what he likes about his job.

School Counselor William Marchione spelled out the objectives of the Career Day. “We want students to have high expectations for their futures. We want them to know that the skills they are learning in the classroom transfer to real jobs with real meaning,” he explained. “We also want students to be exposed to a wide variety of possible careers. And we want to promote community and school joined together in the common goal of educating our students and launching them into the world of work.”

For more than three years the Space Foundation has partnered with Charles County Public Schools, providing professional development classes for educators during the summer. The Space Foundation cultivated a similar partnership with Omaha Public Schools this year. See the Space Foundation Education website here
