General Alston Addresses Space Foundation Correspondent’s Group

Colorado Springs, Colo. (January 25, 2008) The Space Foundation’s Washington, D.C., office hosted a Space Foundation Correspondent’s Group (SFCG) meeting on January 24, 2008. Featured speaker Brig. Gen. C. Donald Alston, USAF, director, Space and Nuclear Operations, deputy chief of staff for Air, Space, and Information Operations, Plans and Requirements, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, addressed reporters representing national, trade, and wire services.

Alston serves as the Air Force lead for space and nuclear operations responsible for integrating space and nuclear capabilities into Air Force, joint, coalition, and national planning and operations. Having previously served as the spokesperson for Multi-National Force - Iraq in Baghdad, Alston spoke about space operations from a warfighter’s perspective. Topics of discussion included integration of air, space, and cyberspace into combat operations, the Global Positioning System, the China anti-satellite test, space surveillance, and Operationally Responsive Space.

This SFCG event is part of a regular series of gatherings for Washington, D.C.-based space, defense, science and technology, business, and international journalists to engage in dialogue with leaders from across the space industry. Previous guests at SFCG events include Eric Anderson, president and chief executive officer of Space Adventures, NASA Deputy Administrator Shana Dale, Richard Garriott, the next private citizen scheduled to travel to the International Space Station, and National Security Space Office Director Joe Rouge.
