"The Suborbital Aeroscience Studies (SAS) program--the highly successful leading program of Ingite's SystemsGo curriculum tract--is setting records! From humble beginnings at the Fredericksburg High School, in Fredericksburg, Texas, the program has ignited students and their accomplishments are recognized across America. The curriculum is now being offered statewide in Texas.

The SystemsGo SAS program offers junior and senior high school students an opportunity to participate in a hands-on, project-based engineering and technology program in aeroscience studies.

Here are some of the students' accomplishments so far:

  • Fredericksburg High School of Fredericksburg, Texas is the first high school to design and develop rockets achieving March 1 and March 2.
  • First high school to launch rockets at a Federal Missile Range with national records for largest, fastest and highest vehicles designed and developed by high school students.
  • Eighty percent (80%) of the SAS students have continued on to study engineering in college. Now many of them work at major space related companies such as NASA, United Space Alliance, and Space Exploration.

Ignite offers statewide teacher training and replication of its high school SAS curriculum. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) curriculum uses inquisitive learning based on a problem and project-based model to invoke and stimulate skills in design, development, testing, analysis, and innovation.

Students experience hands-on research as well as design and development instruction within the engineering and technology design disciplines. Valuable life skills such as problem-solving, testing and analysis, documentation and reporting, project management, teamwork and communication are developed. These applied philosophies of education are imperative in supporting tomorrow's workforce needs. Our SAS curriculum, endorsed by NASA, is a two-year, junior/senior program in which first year students may design and develop remotely operated vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles for research or industrial applications. Second year students design and fabricate rockets for testing at altitudes from 5,000-feet to 100,000-feet. The SAS program encourages students to pursue engineering and technology careers in the American workforce.

Brett Williams, a graduate of Texas A&M University and founder of the SAS Curriculum, has been teaching the SAS Curriculum at Fredericksburg High School for ten years.
