Hearing Considers NOAA Budget Request to Fund Weather Satellites

Written by: developer

In March, the House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Energy and Environment held a hearing on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) FY 2013 Budget Request. NOAA requested $5.1 billion in FY 2013, a 3 percent increase from FY 2012.

A significant portion of NOAA's budget request will go toward funding the acquisition of two next generation weather satellites - Geostationary Satellites-R (GOES-R) and Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS). NOAA told Congress that if it does not fully fund JPSS there could be a gap in weather satellite data after 2015. Learn more about NOAA here.
