Aerus and its family of companies which include Vollara, activTek and Beyond by Aerus offer a variety of air purification and residential products which use a variation of technology originally developed in cooperation with NASA to remove airborne pathogens.
The original technology was applied to plant growth experiments on the International Space Station. One of the challenges was that plants naturally release Ethylene gas as they grow. This gas builds up in enclosed spaces causing plants and fruit to mature and ripen prematurely; it even accelerates decay.
Researchers at the NASA Commercial Space Center at the University of Wisconsin found that ultra-thin layers of titanium dioxide exposed to ultraviolet light converted ethylene into carbon dioxide and water -- substances that are good for plants.
Subsequently, NASA researchers developed a coating technology to design an ethylene scrubber. This first-generation ethylene scrubber was used effectively inside a plant-growth unit, which grew potato plants during a space shuttle mission in 1995.
Scientists have continued to refine this technology for applications including further plant experimentation aboard the International Space Station.
People spend more and more time indoors. Unfortunately studies show that the air inside our homes, schools and offices can be far more polluted that the air outside. Aerus offers solutions. Easy to use, effective, and convenient, Radiant Catalytic Ionization (RCI) air purification products by Aerus, activTek, Vollara and Beyond by Aerus offer remarkable innovation in air purification technology.
Additional products offered such as the Vollara LaundryPure 2.0 and the Laundry Pro 2.0 by Aerus also use RCI technology to lift dirt and grime away from the fibers of fabric and prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria and clean without the use of detergents of chemicals. These are amazingly effective cold water laundry systems for residential use.
