Nominations sought for 2004 Space Technology Hall of Fame


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.(Aug. 1, 2003) -- The Space Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 2004 Space Technology Hall of Fame. All nominations are due to the Space Foundation by October 31, 2003. The Space Technology Hall of Fame honors technologies and innovators who have transformed space-based technology into commercial products and services. The Cochlear Hearing Implant, the high efficiency Digital Latching Valve, and the Humanitarian Demining Device were among the technologies honored in the 2003 Space Technology Hall of Fame. The Space Technology Hall of Fame, managed for NASA by the Space Foundation, enters its 16th year of recognizing significant technology transfers from space technologies, increasing public awareness of the benefits of space technology, and encouraging further innovation. Individuals and organizations may nominate up to three technologies. This nomination may include the re-nomination of previously submitted technologies. Supporting information for each nomination submitted will be reviewed for completeness, assessed by technical experts and ranked by a panel of judges according to the following criteria:

  • Economic Benefit (10 points)
  • Public/Private/Partnership Investment (5 points)
  • Public Awareness Factor (15 points)
  • Societal Benefit Factor (15 points)
  • Longevity (5 points)

Technologies selected for induction will be announced in February 2004 and inductees will be honored at the Space Technology Hall of Fame Dinner at the 20th National Space Symposium scheduled for March 29 - April 1, 2004, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
