Space Technology & Investment Forum Continues Today in San Francisco

The Space Foundation's third Space Technology & Investment Forum concludes today in San Francisco. Attendees have been participating in the two-day conference as technical experts, advisors, mentors and service providers to facilitate new business ventures and bring big ideas to fruition. Successful space industry CEOs and founders of new space startups shared their experiences about how to secure funding, and identify creative financing solutions to launch new products and services.

This morning began with a breakfast briefing by Space Foundation Director - Research & Analysis Micah Walter-Range (pictured), who discussed the release of The Space Report 2017.

The day's featured speakers included:

  • Amir Blachman, Vice President, Strategic Development, Axiom Space Company, to address "The Future of Human Spaceflight and Space Investing"
  • Steve Butow, West Coast Military Lead, Defense Innovation Unit Experimental (DIUx), on the topic of "Innovation in the Department of Defense"
  • Jana Lewis, Strategic Innovation Partnerships & Sourcing - Emerging Technologies for Facebook, will deliver the luncheon presentation, "Connecting the World: Facebook's Mission to Bring People Closer Together"
  • Ed Swallow, Senior Vice President, Civil and Commercial Systems, The Aerospace Corporation, speaking on "New Space: A Gold Rush or Fool's Errand?"

The panel discussions for the day focused on:

  • "NASA iTech as a Model for Stimulating Innovation" (pictured below)
  • "International Investment in Space Activities" (pictured right)
  • "Commercializing Space Tech - Opportunities for Profit"
  • "Financing Innovation: Other Means of Funding"
