Space Technology & Investment Forum Convenes Today in San Francisco


The Space Foundation's third Space Technology & Investment Forum opened today in San Francisco, bringing together top venture capitalists and angel investors with space industry experts to explain the technical, legal and business issues critical to market analysis and risk assessment.

Today's program began with comments by Space Foundation Chief Executive Officer Tom Zelibor (pictured). Featured speakers for the day are:

  • Greg Autry, Ph.D., NASA Landing Team Member and interim White House Liaison, who will speak on the subject of "The Trump Space Policy and the Investment Climate."
  • Pete Worden, Executive Director, Breakthrough Starshot, and former Director of NASA Ames Research Center, discussing "Breakthrough Initiatives"
  • Tess Hatch, Investor, Bessemer Venture Partners, will deliver the Startup Showcase Introduction, leading into the Startup Showcase Reception

Panel topics today include:

  • "Defining the Industry" (pictured)
  • "Big Data and the Space Investment Community"
  • "Critical Infrastructure Dependencies: Understanding Implications and Opportunities for Space"
  • "Government Support or Competition with Commercial Space Business - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"
  • "Hot New Technologies"

The conference will continue tomorrow with featured speakers:

  • Amir Blachman, Vice President, Strategic Development, Axiom Space Company, to address "The Future of Human Spaceflight and Space Investing"
  • Steve Butow, West Coast Military Lead, Defense Innovation Unit Experimental (DIUx), on the topic of "Innovation in the Department of Defense"
  • Jana Lewis, Strategic Innovation Partnerships & Sourcing - Emerging Technologies for Facebook, will deliver the luncheon presentation, "Connecting the World: Facebook's Mission to Bring People Closer Together"
  • Ed Swallow, Senior Vice President, Civil and Commercial Systems, The Aerospace Corporation, speaking on "New Space: A Gold Rush or Fool's Errand?"
