Nomination Deadline Approaches for 2003 Space Technology Hall of Fame


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.(Oct. 10, 2002) -- The Space Technology Hall of Fame soon begins the selection process for the 2003 inductees. All nominations are due to the Space Foundation by Oct. 31, 2002. The Space Technology Hall of Fame honors technologies and innovators who have transformed space-based technology into use for commercial products. Each organization may nominate up to three aerospace spin-off technologies, and re-nomination of previously nominated technologies is permitted. Information submitted for each nomination is reviewed for completeness and screened and assessed by technical experts. Candidate technologies are submitted to the panel of judges who rank them according to the Space Technology Hall of Fame selection criteria:

  • Economic Benefit (10 points)
  • Public/Private/Partnership Investment (5 points)
  • Public Awareness Factor (15 points)
  • Societal Benefit Factor (15 points)
  • Longevity (5 points)

The Space Technology Hall of Fame, managed for NASA by the Space Foundation, enters its 15th year of recognizing significant spin-offs from space technology, increasing public awareness of the benefits of space technology, and encouraging further innovation. Technologies selected for induction into the Hall of Fame will be announced in February 2003. The inductees will be honored at the Space Technology Hall of Fame Dinner at the 19th National Space Symposium, scheduled at The Broadmoor Hotel on April 7-10, 2003, in Colorado Springs. The Space Foundation is a national non-profit organization advancing space awareness and education.
