COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 6, 2004) — The Space Foundation announced today the establishment of a Washington, D.C. office to better serve its mission and customers. The office, located at 1620 I Street-NW, opened Jan. 5th. “This office creates a highly responsive, present, customer-focused interface with key Space Foundation customers within the Administration, the Congress, the space industry, and such relevant federal agencies as the Department of Defense, Department of Commerce, Department of State, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, National Science Foundation, Department of Education and others,” said Elliot G. Pulham, Space Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer. The Space Foundation has named Brian Chase to head the Washington office in the newly created position of vice president, Washington Operations. Chase was most recently executive director of the National Space Society (NSS) and will continue on an interim basis in that capacity. Chase will be available to decision makers and Space Foundation customers in Washington on a daily basis, representing the Foundation and advancing its mission in space policy, education, events, conferences and symposia and in media activities. Prior to joining the NSS, Chase served as deputy chief of staff and campaign manager, and press secretary and senior legislative assistant for U.S. Congressman Dave Weldon (R-FL). He previously worked for NASA contractor United Space Alliance leading an interdisciplinary team of senior managers and executives charged with developing company-wide strategies for communications, public relations and government affairs activities. In his role with NSS, he has testified on space policy before the U.S. Congress, appeared on network media and been quoted in leading national news publications. He began his career at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as a cooperative education student and later was a program analyst with the International Space Station Program Office. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. About the Space Foundation
