Discovery Center Now Has a Director; Travis Schenck Brings Extensive Museum Experience to the New Position

The Space Foundation's Discovery Center, the Colorado Springs region's only space, science and technology attraction, has its first director. Travis Schenck comes to the job from a position as executive director of the Museum of Moab in Moab, Utah.
The Discovery Center is located at Space Foundation World Headquarters, 4425 Arrowswest Drive, and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
During Schenck's nearly six years as executive director at the Museum of Moab, visitation and outreach numbers increased from 4,000 guests to 10,000 visitors and students per year. His responsibilities there included the day-to-day operations of the museum, object care, exhibit design, supervision of docents, budget and strategic planning management.
Schenck earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Brigham Young University (BYU), where his concentration was museum studies. He also brings experience as a museum guide and lecturer at the Totem Heritage Center in Ketchikan, Alaska, and as a collections and restoration volunteer at the BYU Museum of Peoples and Cultures in Provo, Utah.
The Discovery Center has been operating under the direction of Space Foundation Vice President Education and Discovery Iain Probert, who will oversee Schenck's management of the Center.
