FY 2014 National Defense Authorization Act Status

Written by: developer

The U.S. House of Representatives passed its version of the FY 2014 National Defense Authorization Act on June 14. The bill provides policy guidance to the Department of Defense (DoD), and authorizes funds to be appropriated for various defense programs, including space. The bill would fully authorize funds for major military space programs outlined in the President's FY 2014 budget request.

In addition, the bill includes several space policy provisions, including:

  • Space Acquisition Strategy
  • Operationally Responsive Space update
  • National Security Space Satellite Reporting Policy

In addition, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee passed its version of the FY 2014 Department of Defense Appropriations bill. The bill will next be voted on by the full U.S. House of Representatives at a future unidentified date.

The bill provides funds for Department of Defense programs, including space programs. The bill proposes cuts to almost all the major military satellite programs in FY 2014.

The Space Foundation updated our DoD space budget report to include the proposed changes, which can be found here.
