House Science, Space and Technology Committee Sends Letter with Proposed NASA Budget Reductions

Republicans Recommend NASA Cuts Republicans on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee recently sent a letter to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction recommending “over $1.5 billion in savings in FY 2012,” including cutting $177 million from the NASA budget by taking the following actions:

• Cancel the Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO)-2 missions
• Reduce the Other Missions and Data Analysis account within the Earth Systematic Missions portfolio by 20 percent
• Reduce the Venture Class Missions account within the Earth System Science Pathfinder Missions by 20 percent

The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction has until Nov. 23 to approve a plan that would cut $1.2 trillion from the overall U.S. budget over the next 10 years.
