Space Foundation and Space News Launch Strategic Space Conference in September 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Apr. 17, 2003) — The Space Foundation and Space News announced today the creation of a highly specialized new symposium – Strategic Space 2003 – scheduled Sept. 2-4 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Omaha, Neb. Strategic Space is being created as an annual symposium in support of the space and space-related missions of U.S. Strategic Command.

Strategic Space brings together senior leadership of U.S. Strategic Command, appropriate component and support commands, the aerospace contractor community, federal officials and Omaha community leaders.

Continuing to build relationships is the emphasis of Strategic Space 2003. The symposium will showcase STRATCOM’s role in translating ideas into innovation and concepts into capability.

Space Foundation Board Member General Thomas S. Moorman, Jr., USAF (Retired), has been named special program advisor for Strategic Space 2003.

“The Space Foundation has a significant history of supporting national security space endeavors, and we are honored to continue this tradition in support of U.S. Strategic Command,” said Moorman, an officer in Booz Allen Hamilton and a member of the Command’s Strategic Advisory Group. “The shift of major space responsibilities to Strategic Command, and the lessons we are learning daily from Operation Iraqi Freedom, make Strategic Space 2003 a very important forum for government and industry leaders alike.”

In addition to Strategic Space, the Space Foundation and its partnering organizations annually conduct the International Space Symposium, Oct. 28-30, 2003, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.; Space at the Crossroads, scheduled February 18, 2004, in Washington, D.C; and the 20th National Space Symposium, scheduled March 29 – April 1, 2004, at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
