Senior Pentagon communicator joins Space Foundation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 23, 2006) — The Space Foundation announced today that Col Marty Hauser, USAF, will assume the position of vice president, Washington Operations, Research and Analysis, effective Sept. 1. Hauser will lead the Space Foundation’s enterprise that provides balanced and objective data and analysis for and about the civil, commercial and national security space community. “We’re pleased to have an experienced professional like Marty continue the strides in space research and analysis begun by Jay DeFrank,” said Space Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Elliot G. Pulham. “With Marty’s expertise in space and communications, he will lead the way in providing valuable data and insight for and about the space industry.” Hauser previously served at the Pentagon as assistant director of Public Affairs, Secretary of the Air Force, including during the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon. He was the primary Department of Defense spokesperson for the Space Shuttle Challenger accident, recovery, and return to flight. He also was instrumental in the Air Force’s declassification of national security launch dates and times. Hauser has served as press secretary and spokesperson for the Secretary of the Air Force, the Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, and two Assistant Secretaries of Defense. Hauser earned a Bachelor of General Studies degree in broadcast management and organizational communication from The Ohio University and a Master of Arts degree in mass communication from the University of Oklahoma. The Space Foundation will release The Space Report: A Definitive Guide to the Global Space Economy this fall; the book is the latest product from the Research and Analysis department, which produced a collection of scholarly essays and research findings in The Case for Space Exploration: Failure is Not an Option and the white paper “National Security Space Industrial Base: Understanding and Addressing Concerns at the Sub-prime Contractor Level.” The Research and Analysis enterprise was launched in April 2005 as a key strategic step forward in serving the space community.
