Hypertronics Features Proven Interconnect Solutions at 27th National Space Symposium

Written by: developer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 6, 2011) – Hypertronics Corporation, a Smiths Interconnect business and world-leading provider of high performance interconnect solutions for the most demanding applications will be present at the 27th National Space Symposium being held at the Broadmoor Hotel,  Colorado Springs, CO., April 11th – April 14th.

For the duration of the symposium, an event that attracts many of the best and brightest from the space community, Hypertronics will display its suite of world class interconnect solutions, including the cPCI and KA connector series, both of which are tailor-made for the space environment, and have compiled a successful track record in real-world space application scenarios.

The KA connector series has played a vital role providing on the Space Shuttle Atlantis in the Shuttle’s mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. The KA series was selected by NASA because it featured low insertion force in high pin count connectors that were employed to transmit power and signal in on-board processors.

Similarly, the Hypertronics cPCI connectors have also played a key and successful role in real-world space exploration applications, including being selected by the Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JLP) in Pasadena, CA., for use aboard the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL). From a performance perspective, one attribute that differentiates and sets Hypertronics cPCI apart from competitive offerings, is its advanced hyperboloid wire basket socket. When a pin is inserted into its sleeve, the wires stretch around it, providing a full 360° of contact around the pin.

The Hypertac® hyperboloid contact provides immunity to shock and vibration and fretting, and also offers low insertion and extraction forces, low contact resistance, as well as industry-leading mating cycles. Both the cPCI and KA series have also been designed to perform flawlessly under the most dynamic and severe environmental conditions, giving them a significant edge in the demanding aerospace application environment.

Hypertronics will be in Booth 720 during the run of the National Space Symposium.
