Written by: developer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 29, 2013) – GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY), headquartered in Sacramento, California announced today that John Schumacher will join the GenCorp team as vice president for Business Relations. He will be responsible for developing aerospace and defense focused government relations and implementing business growth plans globally for GenCorp. “John is a proven innovator in the global aerospace marketplace,” said GenCorp CEO Scott Seymour. “He is an important addition to GenCorp as we move forward and expand our world-class offerings to government and private sector customers.”

In this role, Schumacher will also support Aerojet-General Corporation, a GenCorp subsidiary, working closely with Aerojet President Warren Boley and Aerojet’s Washington Operations. “John is a great addition to the team,” said Boley. “He brings tremendous industry experience that will directly contribute to our customers’ and Aerojet’s success.”

Schumacher comes to GenCorp from EADS North America where he was responsible for providing Astrium’s global space capabilities to the North American market. He led the creation of Astrium Americas, a subsidiary of EADS North America, and served as its first president, providing U.S. government and private sector customers with a unique, commercial approach to Astrium’s advanced telecommunications, geo-information, space transportation and satellite capabilities — from complete space systems to state-of-the-art satellite services.

Prior to joining EADS North America, Mr. Schumacher was the vice president of Washington Operations for Aerojet. He was responsible for leading and expanding Aerojet’s activities with the Department of Defense, NASA and other U.S. government, private sector and military customers.

Schumacher has spent nearly 25 years in government service. He was chief of staff at NASA during a fundamental redirection of America’s space program and the agency’s return to human spaceflight in 2003. He previously served as NASA’s associate administrator for External Relations, where he led the agency’s efforts to expand cooperative programs in science, technology and human spaceflight with industry and government partners across the globe.

Mr. Schumacher graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a Surface Warfare officer in both active and reserve assignments, commanding four Naval Reserve units. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University and a Master’s degree from Georgetown University. His awards include the Senior Executive Service Presidential Rank (Distinguished and Meritorious), NASA’s highest award, the Distinguished Service Medal and the Department of Defense Legion of Merit.
