Aerojet Rocketdyne’s EKV DACS Performs in Successful GMD Interceptor Test

Written by: developer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 22, 2014) – Aerojet Rocketdyne, a GenCorp (NYSE: GY) company, announced today that its liquid Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) on the Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV) successfully performed its mission-critical role in the latest flight intercept test of the Missile Defense Agency’s Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program. The vital GMD program currently is the United States’ only defense against long-range ballistic missile attacks.

During today’s test, designated FTG-06b, a Boeing-developed interceptor, carrying the Raytheon-built EKV, was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., following the launch of a representative target missile from the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site (RTS), located on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. The Aerojet Rocketdyne DACS successfully maneuvered the EKV to the appropriate altitude and closing velocity required for destruction of the incoming target.

“This successful test of the GMD system continues Aerojet Rocketdyne’s 100 percent mission success of the liquid DACS on GMD flight tests,” said the Missile Defense and Strategic Systems Business Unit Vice President, Michael Bright. “The initial indications are that the DACS performed as expected, and Aerojet Rocketdyne is proud that its products reliably support the defense of our nation on the GMD program.”
