ROCKETOBERFEST Brings Family-Friendly Oktoberfest Celebration to the Discovery Center

Written by: Space Foundation Editorial Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 5, 2018) — The Space Foundation is launching its inaugural ROCKETOBFEST on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Discovery Center in Colorado Springs.

The all-ages event will feature interactive activities and games, beer, food trucks, live music and of course, space exhibits. The event is also a fundraiser benefiting the Space Foundation’s education programs, Sudden Arithmetic Death Syndromes (SADS) and the Pikes Peak Club.

Kathy Vinson, Space Foundation Vice President — Operations said, “The inaugural ROCKETOBERFEST provides a unique opportunity for our guests and their families to support the Space Foundation’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programs while enjoying a variety of local food, beverages, entertainment and fun activities.”

Locals may recall a similar fundraising event taking place in the backyard of Bite Me Gourmet Sausage owner, Bill Layton. His event raised funds for the SADS Foundation, in honor of his wife Sally, who has Long QT Syndrome, a condition of SADS. Having outgrown their home, the event has moved to the Space Foundation and morphed into ROCKETOBERFEST.

“I’m very excited to be the glue between these great organizations. I believe this could be the beginning of some great symbiotic relationships. They are all tied to helping kids,” said Layton.

ROCKETOBERFEST will kick off at noon on Sept. 15 at the Space Foundation Discovery Center and run until 5:00 p.m.

Beer ticket packages start at $35 per adult and include beer tickets, activity tickets, 10 percent off discount in the Discovery Center Store and $10 off an annual Discovery Center Passport.

The fees to participate in the activities without the beer package are regular Discovery Center admission rates.

Activities include:
