Military space leaders address sell-out crowd at Strategic Space 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sep. 4, 2003) — It was standing-room only at Strategic Space 2003, a national security space conference held 2-4 September at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Omaha, Neb. Key officials from United States Strategic Command, NASA, Air Force Space Command, the National Reconnaissance Office, Naval Network and Space Operations, Army Space & Missile Defense Command and the aerospace industry discussed the latest in military space programs and the recent assignment of space missions to Strategic Command.

Strategic Space 2003 was presented by the Space Foundation and Space News in support of America’s strategic space forces, with strong support by industry sponsorships, Strategic Command and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce.

“It was our pleasure to team-up with Strategic Command and Space News and we’re thrilled with the overwhelming success of this inaugural event,” said Elliot Pulham, Space Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to working again with Strategic Command, the Omaha community and industry and expect Strategic Space 2004 to be even bigger and better.”

Special events held during the week included a Welcoming Reception at the Strategic Air & Space Museum, co-sponsored by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce; featured speakers and panels, sponsored luncheons, press conferences and networking opportunities.

Welcoming Reception participants were astronaut Clayton C. Anderson, mission specialist, National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA), Lyndon B. Johnson Space Flight Center; Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey; Mr. William Klanke, vice president, Trade Publishing Business Development, Space Holdings and publisher, Space News; Ms. Linda Lovgren, chairman, Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce; and Mr. William B. Tutt, chief executive officer, Tutco, LLC and chairman, Space Foundation.

For this year’s conference, featured speakers included ADM James O. Ellis, Jr., USN, Commander, Strategic Command; the Honorable Frederick D. Gregory, deputy administrator, National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA); Lt Gen Thomas Goslin, Jr., USAF, deputy commander, Strategic Command; Gen Lance W. Lord, USAF, Commander, Air Force Space Command; and the Honorable Peter B. Teets, Under Secretary of the Air Force and director, National Reconnaissance Office.
