STRATCOM Integration Topic of Panels at Strategic Space and Defense 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sep. 11, 2008) — U.S. Strategic Command is tasked with the mission to integrate the resources and capabilities of all Department of Defense services to provide operational capability throughout the global theater. Panels from both military and defense industry perspectives during Strategic Space and Defense 2008 will explore the complexities that come with the massive integration and synchronization required to successfully accomplish this task. Presented by the Space Foundation and Space News, Strategic Space and Defense, the global security conference for space and defense professionals, is set to take place at the Qwest Center Omaha Convention Center and Arena in Omaha, Neb., 6-8 October. 

“Integration of Land, Sea, Air, Space, and Cyberspace in a ‘Purple’ World” will take place at 1030 hrs on Tuesday, 7 October.  The panel will be moderated by Brig. Gen. (Select) Michael J. Carey, USAF, Deputy J3, United States Strategic Command.  Panelists are Air Cdre Mark Lee Roberts, UKRAF, Director of Air Staff, Royal Air Force; Lt. Gen. William L. Shelton, USAF, Commander, 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic), Air Force Space Command and Commander, JFCC-Space, United States Strategic Command;  and Brig. Gen. Suzanne M. Vautrinot, USAF, deputy commander, JFCC-Network Warfare.

“Integration in a ‘Purple’ World – The Industry Perspective” will cover important integration issues from the viewpoint of leading defense industry experts and will take place at 1400 hrs on Tuesday, 7 October. The panel will be moderated by Mr. Kevin E. Williams, director, Global Innovation & Strategy Center, United States Strategic Command. Panelists include Mr. Guy DuBois, vice president of Operational Technologies and Solutions, Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems; Gen. Bernard Molard, FAF (Retired), Security and Defense Advisor to the EADS ASTRIUM CEO; and Brig. Gen. Robert Osterthaler, USAF (Retired), president & chief executive officer, AMERICOM Government Services.

Strategic Space and Defense attendees gather to gain insight on USSTRATCOM’s mission, global activities, and relationships; international perspectives from allied partners; and the latest developments in national security policy and trends from key aerospace community leaders.  More than 2,000 participants are expected to attend Strategic Space and Defense 2008. 

The program will incorporate two full days of featured speeches and panel sessions, the Welcoming Reception and Exhibit Center Opening, co-sponsored by the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership; continental breakfasts co-sponsored by the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and Booz Allen Hamilton; The Strategic Space and Defense Cocktail Reception, co-sponsored by Raytheon; The Strategic Space and Defense Dinner, co-sponsored by Northrop Grumman; the Reception in Honor of the Men and Women of U.S. Strategic Command, co-sponsored by Integral Systems, Inc.; and an exhibit center luncheon.
