Space Foundation Partners with CSU – Pueblo

Space Foundation education programs focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), helping to address serious gaps in U.S. science and math education and proficiency. Those efforts received a boost recently through a new partnership with Colorado State University – Pueblo.

Colorado State University – Pueblo and the Space Foundation have developed a partnership for the June 21-25 Space Across the Curriculum session, “PreK-2 Early Childhood Space Exploration.”

“We at Colorado State University – Pueblo are excited to begin this collaboration,” said Dr. Victoria Marquesen, associate dean of the teacher education program. “The June workshop is a wonderful opportunity for teachers in our area.”

Focusing on space and science education for young learners, the PreK-2 course provides early childhood educators the necessary tools to inspire very young children through inquiry-based learning. Space Foundation certified aerospace education specialists present teachers with age-appropriate, hands-on activities they can immediately use with their students.

The class will be held on the Colorado State University – Pueblo campus and space is limited.

Upward Bound at Colorado State University – Pueblo
The Space Foundation is also partnering with Upward Bound at CSU-Pueblo to offer a day of rocketry and robotics classes for participating students as an integral component of the Summer Residential Academic Curriculum. The classes will be held July 8. Upward Bound is a program that helps low-income and first generation to college students develop the skills and the motivation necessary to graduate from high school and succeed in college. The program provides year-round academic, community service and leadership development activities at no charge to students enrolled in the program.

Upward Bound director Dr. Ismana Carney said, “This partnering initiative is an exciting beginning to a strong and ongoing STEM-based collaboration between our respective education programs, where we look forward to designing, planning and presenting dynamic learning environments for Upward Bound students who may otherwise never be exposed to exciting career opportunities available to them in the ever-expanding field of scientific endeavor.”
