Strasbourg, France (Sept. 19, 2012) – The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) announced the winners of the 2012 SGAC Young Leadership Awards. Five of the nine awardees are alumni of the International Space University (ISU).

All the candidates to win this award are university students and young professionals. The SGAC Young Leadership Awards are delivered to SGAC’s top volunteers to reward them for all the remarkable work they achieved over the past year for the organization. These scholarships will enable the winners to attend the Space Generation Congress.

Five alumni of the International Space University received the 2012 SGAC Young Leadership Awards. They either participated in the ISU Space Studies Program (SSP) or the Southern Hemisphere Summer Space Program (SHS-SP): Victoria Alonsoperez (Uruguay, SSP 2011), Edu F. Aymerich (Spain, SHS-SP 2012 and SSP 2012), Damian M. Bielicki (Poland, SSP 2009), Laura Rose (Canada, SSP 2011) and Junzi Sun (China, SSP 2009).

“It was a great honour for me to receive the Award. Since 2009 I have been the National Point of Contact for Uruguay and in November 2011 I was elected the SGAC South American Regional Coordinator. SGAC’s influence in the South American region is growing with National Points of Contacts in almost every country. Many of the new NPoCs are ISU alumni that I met through the ISU networks.” — Victoria Alonsoperez (Uruguay, SSP 2011).

“Learning the ISU 3i (International, Intercultural, Interdisciplinary) approach has been really important. ISU gives you the opportunity to better understand other cultures and learn to work interdisciplinary and international, which is essential for organizations like SGAC ” — Edu F. Aymerich (Spain, SSP and SHS-SP2012).

The International Space University, founded in 1987 and headquartered in Strasbourg, France, is the world’s leading international space education institution.
