COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 15, 2018) – At a Visit Colorado Springs awards ceremony attended by Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers on Oct. 11, Space Foundation Vice President – Operations Kathleen Vinson received the 2018 Tourism Leadership Award.

“Visit Colorado Springs has recognized what we at the Space Foundation already know. Kathy Vinson is a phenomenal professional to work with and to have as part of your team,” said Space Foundation CEO Thomas Zelibor. “Her dedication to us and our mission and to the greater Colorado Springs community makes a world of difference to our shared success, and we are very proud of her.”

Vinson joined the Space Foundation in 2009, and was instrumental in the Space Foundation’s success in being designated five times by The NonProfit Times and Best Companies Group as among the Best Non-Profit Organizations to Work For. Vinson oversees the Space Foundation’s headquarters, event space and visitor center facilities, as well as the annual Space Symposium, which generates significant economic impact for the Colorado Springs community. She supports and regularly interfaces with local, regional and national law enforcement, as well as members of the military and aerospace industries.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the Space Foundation team, without whom we wouldn’t be able to host nearly 40,000 visitors and students per year, nor would we be able to orchestrate immensely successful events, such as our annual Space Symposium, which brings a significant positive impact to our local economy,” said Vinson. “Beautiful, vibrant Colorado Springs is a tourist attraction in itself, and the Space Foundation is proud to make its home here. We offer unique experiences and events that further our vision to inspire, educate and advocate, not only in our own community, but also as part of the global space community.”
