Build! a Martian Habitat and Explore Life Off Earth at the Space Foundation Discovery Center This Summer

Written by: Space Foundation Editorial Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 29, 2019) – Do you have what it takes to live on Mars? Getting there is one small step, but the giant leap will be living on the red planet. This summer, the Space Foundation Discovery Center is inviting the public to Build!

Build! is a limited-engagement exhibit that opens this Saturday, June 1, that gives visitors the opportunity to explore what it takes to live on Earth and Mars by tinkering, building and experimenting. Visitors will learn about 3D printing, living in small spaces, space age materials and what it will take to build the houses of the future.

Build! is part of the Space Foundation Discovery Center’s Summer of Discovery programming, which invites visitors to ask questions and find out what it would be like to live in space.

Summer of Discovery is special hands-on, fun educational learning designed for the entire family. Included in regular Discovery Center admission, visitors throughout the summer will explore the challenges facing scientists and engineers as they design the structures of the future.

Several special events will occur throughout the summer, including:

  • “Postcrossing” to Mars!
  • 3D Design on Mars!
  • Celestial Yoga with Becki and her canine companion Marley!

Perhaps the biggest event that will take place this summer is the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing on July 20. This family-friendly event will celebrate the first human footsteps on the Moon and inspire us to take the first steps on Mars.

All events and activities are included in regular Discovery Center admission, plus you can purchase stamps for the custom postcards you can create throughout the summer as well as grab all of your out-of-this-world gear in the Discovery Center Store.

The Space Foundation would like to thank the Summer of Discovery Sponsor, the City of Colorado Springs.
