Community

The Space Foundation believes that communities play an enormous role in the quality and effectiveness of any educational endeavor. That's why we shape our education programs to include and involve local communities.

Our NEW HORIZONS Space Education Program infuses science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or STEM education into the community through student enrichment programs, teacher workshops, field trips, town hall meetings, and astronaut and space professional visits. Our teacher training programs, such as the Space Across the Curriculum courses, and our student programs, such as Science, Technology, and Academic Readiness for Space or S.T.A.R.S., improve the community by improving the quality and caliber of the education its students receive. Our Space Career Fair connects students with professional opportunities, thus enhancing the economic and professional climate within the community.

Our industry programs, such as the National Space Symposium and the Strategic Space Symposium, have a positive effect on the economies, the professional environments, and the reputations of the cities in which they are held. Our events include an educational component that connects teachers and students with the wealth of information and exposure our events deliver. Plus, Space Foundation team members are actively involved in the community, especially in programs that support and improve schools and education.

In our home town of Colorado Springs, we have taken community partnership to a new level with the Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy, an aerospace-focused public middle school created in partnership with Colorado Springs School District 11.
