Space Foundation Participates in 50th UNCOPUOS Session

Space Foundation Participates in 50th UNCOPUOS SessionCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jun. 13, 2007) — The Space Foundation is participating this week in the 50th Session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS) in Vienna, Austria. Senior Vice President for Policy and Public Affairs Steve Eisenhart is a private sector advisor to the United States Delegation, a role the Foundation has served in since 2001.

The committee is meeting from June 6-15 to consider agenda items relative to the spin-off benefits from space technology; space and society, including educational aspects of space; space and water; and international cooperation promoting the use of space derived geospatial data for sustainable development.

UNCOPUOS, with 67 member countries, is one of the largest standing committees of the United Nations. The committee also honored Mr. Sergio Camacho-Lara of Mexico, who is departing after heading the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs since July 2002.
