Attention Students: Here's Your Chance to Meet An Astronaut!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mar. 8, 2011) — A new addition to the 27th National Space Symposium for 2011 is an art contest with the theme, “Human Space Travel in the Year 2020.” Grand prize and first place winners will be announced by former NASA astronaut Capt. Robert L. Curbeam, Jr., USN (Retired), on Wednesday, April 13, at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo., during the 27th National Space Symposium. Finalist entries will be displayed at the Symposium outside of the new ARES Education Auditorium in the Boeing Exhibit Center Lower Level. The contest is open to students in PreK-12th grade and is co-sponsored by ARES Corporation, Fisher Space Pen Co. and the Space Foundation.
Original artwork depicting the theme “Human Space Travel in the Year 2020” should be submitted by March 11 to the Space Foundation, 310 S. 14th St., Colorado Springs, CO, 80904.
Entries will be judged in four grade categories:
* PreK-2nd
* 3rd-5th
* 6th-8th
* 9th-12th
The contest will accept up to one entry per person in three categories:
* Drawing/Sketching
* Painting
* Multimedia
