The Space Foundation will celebrate World Space Week with a full week of activities, including the opening of its new Northrop Grumman Science Center, which includes a Science On a Sphere®, and the El Pomar Space Gallery, to be located at the Space Foundation World Headquarters, 4425 Arrowswest Drive in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The first day the Visitors Center will be open to the public will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, and former NASA astronaut and Space Foundation Special Advisor-Human Spaceflight Dr. Leroy Chiao will be at the Visitors Center signing photos from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. See more about the Visitors Center opening and admission fees here.

Another highlight of World Space Week will be the Spce Foundation's popular Audience with an Astronaut program that gives invited students the opportunity to learn first-hand what it takes to become a space explorer. Two 90-minute presentations on Oct. 4 and 5 will consist of informational and inspirational content by Dr. Leroy Chiao. This event is for INVITED TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ONLY and closed to the general public, but open to media.

World Space Week is an annual global celebration of space, and is always held Oct. 4-10. Teachers around the world will make the most of this opportunity to promote space themes in their classrooms. The Space Foundations invites educators to send us your ideas for the week. Activities might include a special presentation, classroom project or guest speaker. We'll publicize the activity on our website and also post it on the international World Space Week events listing. Send a short description of your planned activities to: [email protected]
