Colorado Aerospace Champion Visits Discovery Center
Written by: developer
In January, the Space Foundation welcomed to its world headquarters in Colorado Springs, Maj. Gen. Jay H. Lindell, USAF, (Ret.), Aerospace and Defense Industry Champion at Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
In November 2013, Gov. Hickenlooper announced that Lindell would be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the state’s aerospace strategic plan, and developing and implementing strategies surrounding the state’s military bases.
During his visit, Lindell toured the Space Foundation’s Discovery Center, the region’s only space, science and technology attraction, which houses the Northrop Grumman Science Center, featuring Science On a Sphere®. The Space Foundation recently received an education grant from El Pomar Foundation to fund scholarships for its STEM education outreach.
Lindell’s visit also included a welcome reception with 60 community and aerospace industry leaders, co-hosted by the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance, The Colorado Thirty Group and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).
In his welcome comments, Space Foundation CEO Elliot Pulham emphasized that the Space Foundation does much more to support aerospace in Colorado beyond holding the annual Space Symposium. It also generates community support and conducts public outreach through formal and informal education, he said.
Pulham also took the opportunity to inform attendees that planning for the 30th Space Symposium, to be held in Colorado Springs in May, is going exceptionally well in all areas, including registration, exhibit sales, speaker commitment and government and international participation.
