Brunswick Speaks at Women in Defense San Diego Symposium

Space Foundation Chief Operating Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer Shelli Brunswick served as keynote speaker for the 2017 Women in Defense (WID) Symposium, held March 22 in San Diego. This year’s theme was, “Advancing Together:  Understanding our Past, Defining our Future.” Hosted by the Women in Defense (WID) San Diego Chapter, the annual symposium features senior leader speakers in areas of defense, academia and industry.

Brunswick ‘s message focused on the Space Foundation’s space advocacy and outreach, including the upcoming 33rd Space Symposium, and STEM education programs, highlighting the Space In the Community and Teacher Liaison programs. Her address also included key lessons learned during her career, including persistence, preparedness, volunteerism, being active and most importantly, building and maintaining relationships.

WID’s mission is to cultivate and support the advancement and recognition of women in all aspects of national security. There are 20 WID chapters throughout the nation, as well as international members.

Brunswick serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Women in Aerospace (WIA), an international professional organization dedicated to raising the profile and leadership opportunities of women in the aerospace industry. She is dedicated to increasing the leadership capabilities and visibility in the aerospace community. Also, she serves on the board of directors for both the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council and for the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Rocky Mountain Chapter, and she is a member of the Southern California Aerospace Council. Brunswick previously served on the WID Capitol Chapter Board of Directors.
