First Grade Teacher at The Classical Academy Central Campus Receives New Space Foundation Scholarship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 30, 2012) — The Space Foundation has awarded a new scholarship to Mimi Bull, a first grade teacher at The Classical Academy (TCA) Central Campus in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Anna and Kathryn Probert Educator Enrichment Scholarship will enable Bull to attend the Space Foundation Space Across the Curriculum course Earth Systems Science: Our Earth Revealed, to be held at the new Space Foundation world headquarters in Colorado Springs, June 11-15, with fieldwork at the nearby Garden of the Gods park. Bull plans to use information from the course to interest her young students in the geology of the Colorado Springs region.

In her application, Bull wrote: “As a first grade teacher, I have the opportunity to provide my students one of their first exposures to Earth sciences. It is my responsibility to bring Earth science to life through hands-on experiential learning.”

The Anna and Kathryn Probert Educator Enrichment Scholarship provides the selected educator with tuition, materials fees plus a $500 stipend to participate in one of the Space Foundation’s week-long Space Across the Curriculum summer courses. This new scholarship will be awarded annually and is specifically for educators at The Classical Academy (TCA) Central Campus in Colorado Springs.

About Space Across the Curriculum
These intensive graduate-level courses are open to all pre-k – 12 educators and provide space-related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) content that is instantly transferable to the classroom. Although the underlying focus is on STEM, the courses are structured to adapt lessons to all grade levels and all curriculum areas. Participants do not need to be science or math teachers. Public, private and homeschool teachers from around the globe are welcome.
