The Space Foundation announces its newest Certified Space Technology™ Partner, PhiLumina, LLC, a company that specializes in imaging systems, software, services and solutions.
PhiLumina, LLC Founder and CEO Mark Allen Lanoue was inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame® in 2005 for his hyperspectral imaging systems. The Space Foundation manages both the Space Certification program and the Space Technology Hall of Fame to recognize products originally developed for space that have been adapted to improve life on Earth.
Hyperspectral sensors are used in a space exploration support role, and capture reflected energy from observed objects, which is then analyzed to identify attributes not otherwise visible. Working with NASA, Mark Lanoue along with the Institute for Technology Development (ITD) has radically reduced sensor size, eliminated the need for sensor or target motion and helped to bring hyperspectral imaging systems to the fore front; so that hyperspectral is now classified as an emerging science in a plethora of markets worldwide. These innovations have opened a range of new diagnostic applications to include bio-medical, forensics, counter terrorism, food safety and earth imaging markets.
