Space Commerce Institute Partners with The Levan Center of Innovation for 2022 South Florida Space Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Oct. 6, 2022 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit advocate organization founded in 1983 for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Commerce Institute is partnering with The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation for the first South Florida Space Day. The event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The event, hosted by the Levan Center of Innovation, will convene stakeholders and entrepreneurs to connect the South Florida region to the Florida Space Coast, national, and international space ecosystems. It will focus on trends, challenges, opportunities and strategies of entrepreneurship within the space sector and provide attendees with more awareness of the various opportunities that exist within it. The day-long program will include panels, seminars, an entrepreneur showcase, an entrepreneur pitch event, a business exhibition, and networking opportunities.
Kelli Kedis Ogborn, Space Foundation’s vice president of space commerce and entrepreneurship, will engage in a fireside chat with Kevin Laliberte, Senior Enlisted Leader of U.S. Space Force, Space Delta 3 and U.S. Air Force, Special Ops. They will discuss U.S. Space Force and strategies for working with the U.S. government. Kedis Ogborn will also moderate a discussion panel on space medicine and its potential in space exploration.

- Mike Vinje, Small Business Technology Manager at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center
- Heather Hettrick, Professor in the Physical Therapy Program at Nova Southeastern University (NSU)
- John Wensveen, Ph.D., NSU’s Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director of the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation
South Florida Space Day is also the official launch of The Levan Center of Innovation’s LEVL5: SPACE DOCK. In collaboration with Space Foundation, LEVL5: SPACE DOCK will create a collaborative environment in the space sector for industry, government, academia, entrepreneurs and investors to pursue entrepreneurial activities for the advancement of the South Florida economy. The program will include space-specific entrepreneurial cohorts, specialized events, a curated speaker’s series, and more.
