COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sept. 13, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Foundation Discovery Center will undergo a transformative $3 million renovation and expansion. From Sunday, Nov. 19 until early spring of 2024, this substantial undertaking aims to rejuvenate the Discovery Center, ensuring visitors experience new and exciting opportunities for exploration and learning.

Leading this ambitious project is the award-winning Colorado-based architecture firm RTA Architects and general contractor GH Phipps. With a timeline spanning several months, the renovation will introduce innovative exhibits and experiences while elevating the existing facilities. The enhancements will encompass state-of-the-art flooring and electrical system improvements, a captivating redesign of the Science On a Sphere® system and Mars Robotics Laboratory, and the construction of new cutting-edge labs for hands-on discovery with emerging technologies that will impact life here on Earth as well as in space.

Commenting on the expansion, Space Foundation CEO Heather Pringle said, “We are thrilled to announce the remodel and expansion of Space Foundation Discovery Center. For over a decade, this facility has served the Colorado Springs community by providing opportunities to better understand the wonders and possibilities that space and science offer. The upgrades and expansion will continue to serve as an energizing hub for space education and innovation, as well as offer new avenues for learning and discovery. We are confident that the public will be excited by this renovation and the Discovery Center will leave an even larger impact on our community, inspiring the generations of today and tomorrow by finding their place with space.”

Throughout the renovation process, Space Foundation Discovery Center team members will be actively involved in engaging and educating the Colorado Springs community and extended region through outreach initiatives at various venues.
