This Week's Space Across the Curriculum Course Explores Space Technologies in the ClassroomCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jul. 12, 2010) -- Another Space Across the Curriculum, class started this week at the Space Foundation Discovery Institute in Colorado Springs. The 15 teachers enrolled will spend the week learning hands-on technology lessons to take back to their classrooms. The teacher professional development course, "Space Technologies in the Classroom: Imagery and High-Tech Science," examines the many uses of space technologies in our daily lives. The participating teachers are discovering practical applications of orbital mechanics as they explore every-day uses of satellites. They are also learning about space transportation and design, robotics, communications, space power, and space structures.

This week-long, full-day, graduate-level course allows teachers to earn continuing education credits, graduate credits, or work toward a master's degree in multiple related disciplines. They also gain access to Space Foundation-provided teaching aids and additional lesson plans. The standards-based curriculum is designed to improve students' skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to motivate them to continue to study STEM topics.
