COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jul. 22, 2010) -- Teachers from Charles County (Md.) Public Schools are learning the principles of rocketry, as well as how to incorporate it across their curriculum, in this week's Space Foundation Space Across the Curriculum class, "Rocketry: Space History and the Future of Space Flight."
The 23 teachers in the class are using rockets made from household materials to learn about the principles of flight, angles, and trajectory. The teachers are learning the algebraic principles involved and using their data to determine landing position. At the same time, another group of educators in Charles County is studying, "Lunar/Mars Exploration and Base Construction." Teacher professional development classes continue next week when the Space Foundation will be teaching "Biological and Physical Research: Long Term Space Travel" and "Earth Systems Science: Our Earth Revealed." In addition, two more courses will be offered the first week of August: "Astronomy Principles for the Classroom: Kinesthetic Astronomy" and "Space Technologies in the Classroom: Robotics and Nanotechnology." Watch the Space Foundation website for more coverage of these classes.
The Space Foundation's education programs support teachers and PreK-12 students with standards-based curriculum that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) into all content areas. Click here for more about Space Foundation education programs.
